BBK DAV College for Women held its 50th Convocation to award degrees to its 2019-20 batch of Graduates & Post Graduates. Dr. Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh, MLA, Amritsar North graced the occasion as Chief Guest, while Dr. Ashwani Bhalla, Professor and Additional Director (College Education), Department of Higher Education, Government of Punjab, was the Guest of Honour for the occasion. Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia and Sh. Sudarshan Kapoor, Chairman, LMC welcomed the honourable guests with saplings, symbolic of our enduring bond with Mother Nature. The function started with lamp lighting, chanting of Ved Mantras and DAV Gaan.
Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia presented the annual report of the college, highlighting the honours and achievements of BBK in Academics and Co-academics at state, national and international level. She congratulated the degree holders and encouraged them to be the torch-bearers of lofty Vedic values, academic excellence and work ethics in all walks of life. She expressed her utmost contentment on seeing the enthralling energy and vitality of students after two long years of pandemic. She emphasized the life lesson taught by Covid-19, that the biggest cause of celebration is life itself. Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia urged students to be kind always and to make wise choices in their life because their choices would make a difference not only to themselves, but to the community at large.
In his convocation address, the Chief Guest Dr. Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh, said that presently, quality education and development have become synonyms with each other. While our education system is more examination and result oriented, focus should actually be on attaining excellence rather than scoring good marks in the exams. He added that there is no substitute for hard work, and we should all do our duties with utmost sincerity and honesty.
The Guest of Honour, Prof. Dr. Ashwani Kumar Bhalla congratulated the degree holders and wished them a bright future. He urged them to be a source of pride as well as joy to their parents, the alma-mater and nation. He appealed to the students to equip themselves with skill-based education to become employment providers rather than job seekers.
More than 700 graduates & post-graduates from varied disciplines of Arts, Commerce, Science, Journalism, Economics, Computers Science, Multimedia and Fashion Design were awarded degrees on this occasion.
The Youth Welfare Department of the college enthralled the audience with spell bound performance of Folk Orchestra. Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia and Sh. Sudershan Kapoor honoured the guests with souvenirs. The latest issue of the college magazine Shachi was also released on the occasion.
The dignitaries present in the event included Dr. Manchanda, Dr. H.S. Nagpal, Sh. Sandeep Ahuja, Capt. Sanjeev Sharma, Col. Ved Mittal as well as retired faculty members of the college.
Sh. Sudarshan Kapoor proposed the vote of thanks and the function concluded with the National Anthem.
