BBK DAV College for Women’s open gym “Health Hub” was inaugurated on June 17, 2021. Er Shwait Malik, Member Parliament, Rajya Sabha inaugurated the open gym. It is noteworthy to mention here that an amount of Rs.7,00,000/- was sanctioned to the college by him for two open gyms under PWD (B&R) Provincial Division, Amritsar. Speaking on the occasion, Er. Shwait Malik spoke about the Prime Minister’s mission of making India fit and healthy and also highlighted ‘Khelo India‘ and ‘Fit India’ movements started by Hon’ble Prime Minister. He further shared the various future projects that he has undertaken to make city beautiful and healthy. Sh. Bakshi Ram Arora, former Mayor of Amritsar appreciated the efforts of Member Parliament Er. Shwait Malik said that such gyms are beneficial for the better health of the students and the staff.
Two gyms are installed in the college, one in front of the swimming pool complex and another in the hostel. The equipment installed in both the open gyms includes one cycle, one cross-trainer, one twister, multi gym stations and other machines. The aim of this gym is to encourage faculty and students for better health and fitness.
Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia welcomed the Chief Guest and said that such open gyms are the need of the hour and it is the best endeavor anyone can make during pandemic. She said that the open gym will go a long way in maintaining the health of students and faculty. She further added that the college has been winner of General Sports championship Trophy for several years, and puts a lot of focus on physical fitness and strength. Sh. Sudarshan Kapoor, Chairman, LMC, while thanking the Chief Guest, remarked that open gyms in the city have been a great contribution by MP Shwait Malik. Sh. Bakshi Ram Arora, Sh. Anuj Sikka, Mr. Gautam and Mr. Sandeep Dhawan graced the occasion with their presence. Teaching faculty and Non-Teaching staff of the college participated enthusiastically in the event.
