Title: Dept. of Geography and Tourism organised an Inter-College Zonal Geography Quiz (Amritsar Zone)

Department of Geography and Tourism, BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar, organised an Inter-College Zonal Geography Quiz (Amritsar Zone) in collaboration with Association of Punjab Geographers (APG) in which teams of BBK DAV College for Women, Hindu College and SR Govt. College participated. BBK DAV College for Women got the first position, Hindu College the second position and SR Govt. College the third position. Winners of the quiz were given prizes.

After the quiz, a seminar on Urban Planning and Geographical Information System (GIS) was organised in which Dr. Ashwani Luthra, Professor and Former Head, Department of Geography, GNDU, Amritsar and Mr. Gopal Johari, Senior Lecturer, Guru Ramdas School of Planning, GNDU, Amritsar were the resource persons.

While speaking on urban planning, Dr. Luthra said that a local manager has a great significance and, therefore, he must be proficient in technological, creative and research related skills. He also acquainted the students with different types of urban planning and its utility in the present scenario. Similarly, Mr. Johari, throwing light on GIS, said that it originated in 1854 in London. He added that GIS software is like a Google Map. It is very helpful in the understanding and provision of the regional information.

Applauding the efforts of the department, Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia said that such programmes are very useful and informative for the students and play an important role in grooming the students holistically, thus, enabling them to achieve the best. Prof. Naresh Kumar, Head, Department of Geography and Tourism, along with faculty members and students, was present on the occasion.
